About Mhuri Farming

Mhuri Farming is made up of  a consortium of diverse agro -based interests whose aim is to operate a profitable and successful diversified farming operation that contributes to food security and to the economic, social and environmental well being of the greater population of Zimbabwe.

At Mhuri Farming, our mission is to produce high quality agricultural products using environmentally and economically sustainable methods. We strive to leave our land and our community in better condition than we found it.

Our intention is to expand, by replication, the Mhuri Farming template across the country and regionally, to ensure that Africa becomes food self – sufficient.

The tobacco section currently has a nursery of 8 hectare seed beds which will produce 2 000 hectares of seedlings for 2 000 small scale and commercial farmers.  The scheme has the potential of producing tobacco seedlings for all tobacco farming provinces – Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland North and some parts of Midlands. Most if not all small scale and commercial tobacco farmers in this district rely on Mhuri farming for seedlings.

Apart from tobacco, the farm produces horticultural products such as cabbages, onions peas, carrots and many others. Currently in the fields are onions that are intended for the export market, primarily the Democratic Republic of Congo. Our cabbages grace the shelves of some of the largest retail chains in the country.

Our Primary Goals & Mission

Our Commitment On Tobacco Seedlings

From 2017 to 2019 there has been a steady decline in tobacco production in the country due to drought and economic factors. This year tobacco farmers will be affected by the lack of sufficient and quality tobacco seedlings in the market. Mhuri’s intention is to re-establish tobacco as the largest cash crop in the country by replicating this scheme to all tobacco growing provinces. This will ensure a constant and reliable supply of tobacco seedlings.

Accessible Experts

Making the best seedlings and practical farming experts available around the country is a sure way to increase productivity, produce quality and profitability. Mhuri Farming is determined to spread its wings and help create more skilled farmers.

Mhuri Farming is eager to strengthen local community economies by employing local people. The Farm currently employs 200 people from the community. During peak farming periods this number increases to 400 Most of the employees are young people. Since we started operating, a number of local shops have restocked and resumed business.
